WE ARE FORKLORE!

Our Story

We’re a team of three travel freaks and food lovers. Travelling (and life) experience made us realize that we are also local patriots, loving our homeland more than we would ever expect. This combination inspired us to create a place for foreigners visiting Poland who are passionate about discovering local cuisines and off-the-beaten path places during their travels as much as we do. The idea for FORKLORE appeared during Paulina and Michał’s career break travel through Asia, where they got to take part in numerous cooking classes and were stunned trying real regional flavors. It made us realize even stronger that local food gives you an incomparable insight of the place you visit and our travel experience shows how hard it is to find places serving proper traditional dishes. Soon we started questioning ourselves - why not to share our love to Polish food with tourists visiting our country and help them to taste the real Poland? As we could not find any cons - welcome to FORKLORE website! Through the years we have hosted in Poznań many tourists met through the web platform connecting travellers from all over the world. We have always loved showing them Poland from the locals’ side and seeing their happy eyes while trying pierogi for their first time was absolutely priceless. Nothing makes us happier than seeing foreigners falling in love with our country as much as we do. Okay, maybe mommy’s freshly baked yeast cake with rhubarb will do as well... Anyway, let us share the love to Poland also with you!

Our Team

Marta

Marta is the Forklore’s linguist, planning master and the official Good-vibes-creator.

She is the kind of a person who struggles staying in one place for too long. Even after already living in several countries she still believes that there is nowhere like home. Each time coming back after a long time abroad first thing she dreams about is mommy’s chicken soup (Polish ‘rosół’).

During her travels she has always been putting a great emphasis on the local food research, what involved several times some strong dedications, in order to get to try suggested regional dishes. Any regrets? Never!

Marta has a strong connection with Italy and Italian kitchen, but even pizza looses sometimes with Polish early potatoes and fava beans.

She definitely has got a sweet tooth – the perfect weekend would be baking with mom and then eating the whole tray of cake by herself. Mom is her absolute cooking and baking idol.

Apart from that you can be sure that Marta will bring you to the most picturesque nature spots she knows.

Michał

Do you see some similarities between these two? Yes, Forklore is a family company and as you can see siblings can create a tight team!

Professionally involved in managing building sites so he is trying to bring his managing abilities into the company calling himself the chairman of Forklore. The idea was not established by the female part of the team, however – like a typical inhabitant of Greater Poland – Michał is very thrifty, that is why he has been formally nominated to the position of Forklore Minister of Finances.

Michał is a big fan of Asian food, so as local liqueurs and craft beers.

On Christmas he eats out from the table all grandma’s dumplings (‘pierogi’) with cabbage and mushrooms. Herrings in cream sauce are his another weak spot. In his childhood he used to eat blood soup (in Polish ‘czernina’ – absolutely misleading word) like crazy, till he has found out what is it made of.

Now his life’s discovery is the Asian soup penang laksa (try asking him about it and you will see his eyes shining), although he would never say no to mommy’s borsch (‘barszcz’).

Not always as smiley as on the picture, but Michał would definitely make you laugh in a minute with his specific sense of humour!

Paulina

Although she is trying not to be, Paulina is the team’s haven of peace, what gives the perfect balance to the impulsive siblings connection.

She is the Forklore’s Miss of Marketing and Social Contacts, naturally promoted to the position of our Graphic Designer (no competition in this field).

Paulina is a proud born-and-lived citizen of Poznań, who knows everything about all the events taking place in the town. Passionate about architecture and real estate, she would be happy to tell you more about the newest initiatives of all revitalisations happening in Poznań.

Frequent visitor at the local food markets, always filling up the fridge with seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables. Paulina is a big fan of Asian street food,
however her perfect meal would always include anything made of beetroot. Or parsley. Or both.

If you have already heard of the legendary Polish hospitality, Paulina and her warmest heart are the perfect examples of it!
